A Message from the President of EWB-USA, JHU:
Welcome back to JHU! I hope everyone has had a fun and relaxing summer and a smooth start to the new school year. For those of you have just heard about EWB-JHU, here is a brief introduction. EWB partners with disadvantaged communities to improve their daily quality of life through the implementation of economically and environmentally sustainable engineering projects. We follow EWB-USA's mission to "Build a Better World, One Community at a Time".
I'm excited to say that our South Africa team had a very successful implementation trip this summer in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa installing ram pumps and working with Rotary and the Ndwedwe Department of Agriculture. The Guatemala team also traveled this summer, and they were able to come to an agreement with their community about the rules and guidelines for their solar-powered water pump in Chicorral, Guatemala. Although the Ecuador team stayed at home this summer, much work was accomplished with our professional partners on the plans for the community daycare center in Santa Rosa de Ayora, Ecuador. And last but not least, our new partner organization, the Baltimore project, was able to flesh out their project on a community park in Remington, and are currently planning to work with the Baltimore City government.
Our First General Body Meeting is on Sept. 16th at 5:30 PM in Arellano Theater where you can learn more about our projects and how to get involved.
We welcome the new members and partners and deeply thank those who have continued to support us. We hope you enjoy browsing our website and please keep in touch!
Sincerely,
Jessica Shiao
