About EWB-JHU
Engineers Without Borders - USA
The mission of Engineers Without Borders - USA (EWB-USA) is to partner with disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life through implementation of environmentally and economically sustainable engineering projects, while developing internationally responsible engineering students.
EWB at Johns Hopkins University
Founded in 2005 the Johns Hopkins University Chapter of Engineers Without Borders aims to bring students together and use our skills to fulfill the missions described above.
We welcome anybody from the Johns Hopkins University and Baltimore community to come and participate.
But I'm not a Civil Engineer or Environmental Engineer!
The countries that we visit do not necessarily need engineers. They need plumbers, electricians, and most of all people motivated to help improve the world that they live in.
What your undergraduate training has given you are some solid foundations in the sciences to understand your field and some cognitive tools to approach the material. Therefore, it doesn't matter what you studied, especially when it comes to EWB.
If you are motivated to help change this world, EWB offers an opportunity to impact communities across the globe. Our solutions are by necessity low-tech, so what's most important is that you're willing to put in the time and effort to make a project work. Our faculty advisors and EWB's Techincal Advisory Committees exist to ensure project success.
This invitation is also extended to non-engineers. One will find that it is not only the technical skills that are desired, but also the skills to overcome the cultural, political, and other non-technical difficulties encountered working with a project.
